Baking Day

When Maya was tiny I always held or wore her when I cooked or baked so she could watch. I would tell her what I was doing so that she might feel as included as possible.

Now that's she older she really wants to be included. If she can tell I'm cutting, assembling, mixing, sautéing, whatever...she wants up. She hangs on my legs and cries until I pick her up. But now she's heavier and it's not as easy to to do both. Especially with my burgeoning belly.

Today I needed to make cookies for a baby shower, and I wanted so badly to not have a baby whining at me. I came up with a solution that included her but kept my arms open. I put an apron on her and put my KitchenAid on the floor. She helped me get out all the ingredients and dump them into the bowl. She got especially excited about the eggs.

She kept a safe distance when it was running, and talked the entire time. I could tell she was really enjoying taking part!

We had to wait for them to completely cool before adding the finishing touches, so we went to WalMart to pick up a gift for the shower. Maya saw some big balls and she was way too excited for me to say no.

I promise I don't get her everything she wants. :)

After we got home we finished the cookies. They taste so much better with the Maya's help!
