December Stuff, 3 weeks into January

I don't know why, but I love taking pictures of sweet sleeping babies. He's such a doll and does great on car rides. Mr. Turtle keeps him company.

Maya and Brianna were given sticker charts by Nana to meet goals. Brianna's first goal was to stop waking up in the night. She had been having a hard time staying asleep, and when she woke up, she would cry and yell until I went in there. We had a talk about how Mommy has to get up with Dallin in the night, so if she needs something she can come to us, but otherwise, she just needs to go back to sleep. After she completed her sticker chart (15 days of not waking) she got a prize! She chose to make cookies with Nana. She was SO excited, but on the way to Nana's house she fell asleep. Way asleep. So she napped first.

When she woke up they had a fun time making Kris Kringle cookies, one of our traditional cookies from growing up.

During the month of December I decided I wanted to make a new kind of Christmas cookies every week. Our first one was a cherry chocolate chip crinkle cookie. They were so good! I also made a peanut butter and chocolate crinkle cookie (I guess I like the crinkles), and then finally the honey sugar cookies on Christmas Eve.

The girls played Go Fish together.

Haaair!

Maya got some new nail polish for her birthday from a friend, and she asked to paint my nails. She did an okay job!

We had some nice weather so the girls got to go on a bike ride.

Dallin decided to try out sucking his thumb. He must not have loved it, because he only did it that one day.

Braaaaids!

Maya loves to draw. I am a fan of the cute little duck in this picture.

Sisters and brother time!

She came into Dallin's room while I was nursing him and said. "Somehow I got lipstick all over my mouth." Yes. Somehow. What a mystery.

Then of course Brianna needed lipstick too and they both proceeded to kiss Dallin all over his forehead. He thought that was pretty great.

Our fridge and pantry are often covered with pictures and crafts.

Criss-cross applesauce!

Dallin was getting a kick out of my phone being in front of his face!

Crystal and her kids came to visit for a few days after Christmas. My dad and Holly took all of them (the bigger kids anyway) to the Discovery Museum. They were there all afternoon and had a great time!

Dallin - 6 months

Dallin! How are you already half way to a year?! It's amazing how fast the time goes when babies are little. Someone said to me at church that this is the longest shortest time. How true that is. Goes so fast, and yet each day seems to drag on, especially when sleep is hard to find.

Dallin is now 14 lbs 10 oz (5%), 26 1/4 inches long (32%), and his head is 17 1/2 inches around (82%). He's a cute little squirt, but he feels so heavy when I'm carrying him around while I make dinner because he won't have it (quietly) any other way.

His two bottom teeth are coming in simultaneously. They don't seem to be bothering him, thank goodness.

He is putting himself on an 8 PM to 8 AM schedule, and his naps are taking a hit. He now naps around 10 AM - 11 AM, and in the afternoon he sleeps sometimes. If I'm lucky. Right at this moment, not so much. I thought he had an ear infection but at his well visit he was healthy. Even though his naps are hard right now, he is generally pretty happy when he's awake, so I guess I can't complain too much.

He is still waking up once or twice a night, and I am still nursing him when he does. His first feeding is thisclose to being completely weaned, and then we will work on the second feeding. I love sleep but I hate sleep training. I really have a hard time being consistent with the weaning part, but I'm getting better at watching my phone.

He now has a breakfast of pureed fruit and a dinner of fruit/veggie and meat (all pureed). The doctor said to start introducing textures, so we will start doing that soon. He loves food and so far has not rejected anything I have offered.

He is starting to sit on his own, for a few seconds at a time. I am excited for him to reach that milestone! It's nice to be able to sit a kid down instead of lay a kid down all the time.

He loves to play peek-a-boo, and has started shaking his head "no". He has the best giggles and makes everyone around him smile. When he won't fall asleep for naps, I have Brianna work her magic. She says, "Shhh. shhhh. shhhhhhh." Then sings him Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Then she tells me, "Okay, lay him down now." And he goes to sleep without a peep! Every time! She is very proud of that.

We love this little boy!!!

Christmastime was here

This is a lengthy post with a lot of photos. So brace yourselves. Hands up! I hear it's more fun that way.

We took family photos. This is one of my favorites.

We went to the tree lighting at Foothills Mall. It was cold and windy! We watched a little show, watched the tree lighting and some ice skaters, and then went inside to see Santa Claus. We went last year too, and it was better the first time. There wasn't any fun activities for the kids like coloring and cookies, and no reindeer this year. The main point was to see Santa though, so that was good.

Dallin was cute with Santa when he was alone...

but once the girls were there too he was like, "I'm outta here!" See progression below:

I found some cute Christmas crafts for the girls to paint. They did a great job!

I also made my own craft.

Christmas is so special with little kids. Definitely adds magic that you can't know otherwise.

There was many a request for me to print them Christmas pictures to color.

We decorated the outside of our house for the first time ever. We got two 60-inch wreaths and some greenery to put by the front door as well. We love the white lights.

Inside was all a-glow too.

This is Maya's friend from school, Aliya. They went to preschool together last year too. They're very cute together.

For the last day of school before Christmas break I styled their hair into Christmas trees.

We had church on Christmas Eve this year. It was a wonderful service with a lot of Christmas carols. The kids all had their new Christmas dressy clothes on and looked adorable.

After church on Christmas Eve we baked sugar cookies to have a treat for Santa Claus.

I also made pretzel rolls to take to Christmas Eve dinner that we were having with friends.

We got home from dinner around 7:30. Since it was so close to bedtime we had the girls each decorate one cookie to put on the plate for Santa Claus. We got the plate and Nog (a soy variety of egg nog) set out for him and then it was off to bed for the kiddos!

I sang Silent Night to Dallin before bed that night. He seemed sad that it was the last time I would sing that song for a while.

In the morning it was noise noise noise! Not really. That just came to mind.

In the morning Dallin woke up a little before 7 AM. By the time he was done nursing the girls were awake and ready to see what Santa brought. They were not disappointed!

Dallin got a bunch of new (at least to him) toys. I am sure those toys were pretty thrilled to come out of storage again.

Both girls have a huge like for anything horse related right now. They both got a lot of horse things (especially Brianna).

The girls spent literally all day long playing with their new toys and getting along. I felt so happy that they were enjoying their new things and being friendly with each other.

Brianna has been asking for paints and paintbrushes since before her birthday. Santa brought her some in her stocking and she was quite excited!

During Dallin's afternoon nap the girls and I finished decorating the sugar cookies we had made. This was a new recipe that I tried this year called Honey Sugar Cookies. They were yummy, and my favorite part was that the cookies didn't lose their shape while they were baking so you could tell what everything was. I also put a couple tablespoons of meringue powder in the frosting to make it extra shiny (and maybe a little harder too? I don't know).

For dinner on Christmas Day we went to Himalayan Bistro with my parents. That was interesting. The food was delicious, but the restaurant was understaffed because some employees didn't show up due to it being Christmas (go figure). We were sat right away, but we waited 30 minutes to get greeted at the table, another 15 minutes to order, and 45 minutes to get our food. Thankfully we ordered the food for the kids as soon as we were greeted so it came out way before the rest did. All three kids were miraculously well behaved the entire time, so the experience ended up being a positive one. It was fun to go out to eat on Christmas!

The day after Christmas we hosted dinner for Ryan's side of the family. The main dish we served was a Rib Roast and it was delicious. I see that being a tradition for future years.

There was one photo taken of the group at the table, but it is on Ryan's phone, so instead you get to see the pretty set up, courtesy of Ryan. He did a great job setting it up while I was busy in the kitchen.

We had a fantastic Christmas season this year and I look forward to discovering what 2018 brings for our family!
