The Girls Went Camping

This past February/March I was called to be an Assistant Camp Director for the young women at church. I suppose I "had it coming" because I kept talking about how much I enjoy being outside and nature and such. I accepted the calling, but found myself a little worried that I would enjoy it. You see, when I attended girl's camp as a youth it wasn't the most amazing experience of my life. Sure, I had fun, but I didn't LOVE it by any means.

This time was different though. I took part in planning the whole thing for our ward. Crafts, campfire dinner, and handouts. It was fun to see the girls get excited about the Happy Pills (Skittles) I put in their mail slots, or watch them enjoy the campfire biscuit pizza and s'mores cones that we made for dinner the first night.

We were blessed with ZERO mosquitoes. Which was pretty awesome because apparently last year there were just swarms of them everywhere. The weather was not hot (in fact, it was quite chilly - I wore my coat or sweatshirt the entire time), and our particular campsite was right next to the bathrooms. That was pretty awesome! :) The food was good and all of the activities planned were fun or wonderfully spiritual. I actually haven't felt the Spirit as strongly as I did at the firesides or testimony meetings for a long time. I suppose that is a downfall of having a million primary kids in our ward.

I really enjoyed getting to know the young women as well as the leaders in our ward/stake. I think we all had a lot of fun. And I gotta say, I wouldn't be totally opposed to the idea of going again in the future.

Here are some pictures of the adventures the girls had! As a leader, I found myself to be much more of a bystander, which I was perfectly fine with.

Our campsite. Our name was Camp Los Fuegos

Some of the girls got this teeter totter thing completely balanced!

Archery

Volleyball

Rifle range

This little dude was a stinker. We had our garbage bag tied to a plank of the table. He hung down by his back legs and dropped in, then chewed himself out! It was pretty funny and cute.

We got a pinata for ward night

And ate dessert nachos - churro chips, chocolate and caramel syrup, and marshmallows

Canoeing (this was 8:30 in the morning! It was not warm!)

Part of the low ropes course

We had a fire ban so the last night we had a propane fire to sit around during Bishop's Night
